Working in the community
As part of our objectives we work in partnership with a number of community organisations.
We want to work with community organisations as they understand their housing and other needs better than we do.
We also help organisations access funding from the Big Lottery, Investing in Ideas, and the Scottish Government, through their People and Communities fund, for housing, employment or community projects.
Thanks to the People and Communities fund we were able to employ someone to help people affected by the welfare reform.
It is a partner in Money Skills Argyll which is funded by European Social Fund and BIG Lottery Fund. Money Skills Argyll is a three year, £3.75 million project which is joint funded by European funds and the Big Lottery.
It will focus on achieving an increase in disadvantaged participants with improved money management skills; and a decrease in disadvantaged participants affected by debt as a barrier to social inclusion.
We also received funding to work with Healthy Options, a local health organisation that helps support our tenants to stay healthy by offering health advice, assistance as well as keep fit classes.
We also work in partnership with Working Rite who have supported over 1,670 young people into work places since 2010. The project has been very successful with two of the young people who have gone through the programme winning awards and Oban Trainee shortlisted for electrical apprentice of the year.
Over the past three years we have taken young people on a workplace apprentice programme. We are delighted with this programme and it has given young people the opportunity of work as well as training.
