West Highland donation is music to the ears of local young people
As part of its commitment to supporting local initiatives, West Highland Housing Association recently donated £1,500 to support musical tuition for young people.
Oban-based charity, Fèis Latharna, aims to promote interest, education and participation in the traditional language, music and culture of the Gàidhealtachd, particularly in the Lorn area.
West Highland’s chair, Dougie Mackie, said: “We’re delighted to support the excellent work of Fèis Latharna.
“Not only will these funds allow more young people to benefit from this fantastic local service, but it also compliments our ongoing work surrounding the support of local initiatives.”
Fèis Latharna has been in operation for 25 years and provides weekly tuition to around 60 young people, in addition to running an annual Easter tuition festival for over 200 participants.
A spokesperson from Fèis Latharna said: “With the generous support of West Highland Housing Association, we are delighted to be adding to the instrument bank with another clarsach.
“Our clarsachs are always in high demand and with a retail price of over £2,500 for a student harp, they are completely inaccessible for many and particularly beginners who just want to try it out.”
This year, West Highland has also supported Healthy Options and Mentor to Motivate – both of which continue to provide opportunities to local people.
