West Highland Housing Association has been investigating the feasibility of developing a Community Biomass District Heating Scheme in the village of Benderloch. The district heating network would use woodchip as a fuel source to supply domestic heating and hot water to local residents. This exciting idea could bring a wide range of benefits to the Benderloch community such as:
- A sustainable community based fuel supply from local forestry
- Protection from fossil fuel price rises
- Long term security of fuel supply
- Local employment
The proposal was presented to the local community in May 2011 at the Victory Hall in Benderloch, where feedback was requested to gauge the general feelings of the local community. The details of the consultation have been used to prepare a newsletter for distribution to local residents keeping them updated with the projects progress. As the feasibility project moves forward there will be regular newsletters to ensure the local community are well informed of future developments.
